Choosing the Repair that's Right for You
When you have
a damaged piece of porcelain or ceramic, it is important to know your options.
In most cases, it is possible to repair pieces to two different levels of
quality. These levels of repair are known as Structural,
and Collector's
levels of repair.
Structural Quality Repairs
The purpose of this restoration level is to make a damaged
object structurally sound, and safe for display or use. This level of repair
usually begins by using the appropriate adhesive to assemble all of the
usable broken parts. If the object is cracked, the fissures are sealed to
prevent the damage from spreading. Any missing gaps or chips are then filled.
After the object has been restored so that it is structurally secure, additional
work is done to reduce the visibility of the damage.
